Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/19/2023

Number: 0

This is the first day since early April that I didn't see a sweet Ruby throated hummingbird. It appears that our last little female (Marble) set off on her journey either yesterday afternoon or early this morning. Of course, I won't bel absolutely certain until I observe for a couple more days.

Every Spring, when the last one leaves, it's such a bittersweet experience. While I'm happy and even relieved that they are all on their way to their winter homes, I'm also sad that they are no longer here. I treasure spending time with them outside each day and adore all the amazing interactions. I could observe them all day, if time and life permitted. They are, indeed, such special little birds. I miss them dearly already and look forward to their return in the Spring. They will remain in our prayers. God speed, Marble, and all others in transit. ❤️

I'll maintain 4 feeders for travelers and will continue to be on the lookout for both late Rubies and Raphy, our male Rufous, who wintered with us last year.
