Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/22/2023

Number: 0

As of today, October 22, we have not seen any hummingbirds for a week. The picture is from October 11th, but our last sighting was on the 15th. We had our last two here for over a week - a very dominant adult female and this juvenile who managed to fatten up despite being chased mercilessly by the female. We think the female left two days before this little one. Hope they both have safe trips. Keeping feeders up and fresh for possible migrants, and we still have some flowers for them: phlox, black and blue salvia, a lavishly blooming lantana standard, and the wonderful David Austin rose visible in the background of this picture. It and the lantana just keep blooming and blooming! We had a very exciting hummingbird season with lots of activity; I would guess we had at least two successful broods, judging by the increased activity in the first few weeks of August. We miss them, and I hope we’ll see them all back again next year.
