A lone Monarch is flying around nectaring on a group of flowering plants behind the waterfall. Group has Aster tataricum, Solidago speciosa, Silphium terebinthianum, Helianthus maxmillanii, Salvia x Waverly, Cestrum parquii, Asclepias curavassica, Salvia coccinea, Nicotiana sylvestris, Verbena bonariensis etc. Though nights were in 40s, pond water has been ranging from 56*F to 59*F. From today we will have a week of July temperatures (70s and 50s). But a week of killer freeze is heading on Nov. 1, a month later than usual. Hope this Monarch heads south. Cabbage butterflies are enjoying the balmy weather.
