Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/29/2023

Number: 2

Started out the morning with two ruby-throated hummers. I'm pretty sure the one that was here 3 or 4 days left this morning. So we still have a juvie male that has been here all of October. We've literally watched him grow up. He finally found out he can get nectar from one of our feeders at which he spent about 15 minutes straight drinking and perching. Might be wishful thinking on my part but it seemed he was engaging in a feeding frenzy this evening. So maybe tomorrow he will hit the airways and make it to Texas in one shot. The days have been cool with highs near 40 and lows in the 20s. I saw him leave one of his perches a few minutes after 6:00 p.m. CDT to roost for the evening. I have been getting helpful advice in the event he sticks around some more (thanks!). So I have a plan of sorts. Glad there is only one now to worry about. So pray for all the little hummers out there still. I see reports of some still in mid-U.S. latitudes. From my observations I know they are out there!
