Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/25/2023

Number: 1

This caterpillar was found on blue mist flower aka Colchicum coelistinum. It became a chrysalid the very next day on 9/26/2023. We had some cold temperatures that following week, and I watched the chrysalid very carefully. It finally emerged on 10/26/2023, doubling the normal pupation time.
The same day this male butterfly emerged, I saw two other monarch butterflies in my garden. We were traveling a lot in October so I could not check daily.
