Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 11/03/2023

Number: 2

At 2:30pm it was mostly sunny, 72 degrees F, with 41% humidity, and soft breezes from the SE. As I walked about in an upper pasture, I startled a monarch butterfly resting in the tall grass. She flew to the leaves of a nearby tree to continue resting (this is her photo). As I left her and walked just a little bit more I saw a large, bright-winged monarch flying low. I think this was a male checking milkweed and generally sailing around ~ he quickly lost me as he flew fast across the pastures.

In walking about, I was sad to see many milkweed plants damaged by the freeze which occurred the morning of Nov. 2. Some of these plants have monarch eggs on them, so I hope they will be viable.
