Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 11/04/2023

Number: 1

Female Adult, laying eggs on Asclepias speciosa I planted by our home. I had a hard time seeing the eggs. I only found two.

On Oct. 3rd and I found a monarch caterpillar on the plant as it was starting to turn yellow with fall color.

I found another monarch caterpillar on the same plant on Oct 9th. The plant was all dried up by then. It was supposed to be a hard freeze at that point. So I brought them and Milkweed from another location inside and raised the caterpillars inside. They were on the 4th instar when I found them.

I released them as butterflies in Shoshone Park, Scotland Texas on Nov 4th, 2023. It had been snowing and 10 degrees in Platteville, Co by that time.

They emerged from the chrysalis' in Nov 2nd and Nov 4th. Both of them were female.
