Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 11/12/2023

Number: 1

Today I saw a monarch caterpillar see above photo on a California native narrowleaf milkweed plant in my garden.

Since September I have send hundreds of what looks like monarchs in and around my neighborhood. Im not certain that the ones I have been seeing are monarchs because they have white on the underside of their wings and the white on the top outer part of the wings are not as prominent but they look nearly identical. However, today I’m certain that this catapiller was a monarch, so I’m not sure if the ones I have been seeing are youths or why the underside of the wings are white. I do not use pesticides at all in my garden. They love to stand on California sage leaves and the African jasmin they suckle and appear to dance/mate while flying above the Jasmine. If you email me, I can send you the photos of the “look alike monarch” for confirmation
