Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 11/14/2023

Number: 1

Rufous male here at 7 a.m. in no rain finally, going to same favored gurantica varieties. Black and Blue, 'Amigo,' Blue Swede shoes, Orange Skyscraper. That's all I could keep and find for overwintering plants in garden centers. And was able to keep from loosing in the past 2023 summer drought. Hamelias, red, coral, purple porterweeds are blooming but Rufous is not interested in that yet. If you want to attract Rufous hummingbirds purple guranticas are their favorite. Especially Rockin deep purple salvia we lost in summer high heat index.

As far as I can tell looking through field glasses it's a definite male Rufous getting adult plumage. His back has a lot of orange feather dots coming in thru green back. Neck has a ring of feathers at bottom of neckline development.

Fun to watch but moves fast and did try briefly the JB feeder yesterday in rain 2x.
