Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 01/06/2024

Number: 8

We planted milkweed several years ago; this is the first we have seen active monarch caterpillars. The problem is that we have this very cold spell with temps dipping below freezing for 6+ hours forecasted. We decided to bring them in and provide them with plenty of milk weed and a habitat that we kept clean daily. It’s been about 6 days and all but one of the caterpillars have turned into chrysalises. The last one is still munching away. In the next week or so temps should come up and will be safe to release them. They have provided a lot of joy for our family. We even saw one of them actively forming their chrysalis.
