Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)
Sightings report image

Date: 01/26/2024

Number: 1

At 8:30 a.m. The darndest thing, I was looking thru binoculars to see if this feeder, (in photo,) level is going lower. An incoming hummingbird just appeared at feeder when looking then. I think it was a female Rufous as I could see a bit of buffy sides on it, It flew all around doing a flipping dance flight under pergola as I then afterwards started playing Rufous hummingbird sounds from cell. It flew over to my neighbor's feeder area then up into river birch tree.

We only have coral aloe blooming right now also in photo. Brought in 5 potted salvias in for a 3 week freeze problem. Those plants are out now. Rain for past 4 days now is another issue going on.

On a Rufous note this is time for them to start migration into Texas going northwest to breeding grounds. Don't be sad if yours are gone or think it didn't make it thru a freeze. They are tough little ones in freezes.
