They’re Back

At the end of 2023 I reported that we “still” had Robins in our neighborhood, apparently picking at the fruits on our ornamental pear trees.

Since then we have had some bitter cold weather (e.g., a low of 7°F on January 22nd).

But with a recent warming trend (e.g., today’s high was 45°F), we again have Robins in our neighborhood.  I have no idea as to whether they are the same Robins as last month, or a new flock.  One significant difference is that while in December they were mostly in the trees, today they are mostly on the ground, possibly finding worms (or other bugs) in the thawing ground.  In the included photo, there is one in a tree, one on our front lawn, and at least eight on the neighbor’s front yard across the street.

At about 3:53 PM EST, when I took the photos, the air temperature was 45°F, the dew point was 45°F, the humidity was 100%, the air was calm with a bit of fog, and the air pressure was 28.74 inches.
