Number: 1
Time of observation: 4:05pm CDT
Weather: Partly cloudy, 80 degrees Fahrenheit, southerly winds at 16mph
Air pressure: approx. 29 inches of mercury
Notes: Sighted one large orange and black butterfly, almost certainly a monarch, flying NW across the yard of the Temple, Texas recycling facility. I was unable to ascertain the sex of the butterfly, and the orange color of it's wings appeared to be faded. I did not see any other butterflies and it did not stop until I lost sight of it.
The Texas bluebonnets, pink evening primroses, and several other spring flower species began blooming in the Temple area last week. I have not seen any milkweed yet. Total duration of butterfly sighting was less than ten seconds.
