Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 03/22/2024

Number: 7

Today was cool in the 60's, mostly cloudy, with gusty wind at times. As I went about I observed monarchs all day ~ seeing at least seven individuals (many more encounters). They were flying, nectaring, resting/sunning, and some females egg-laying. A female I was observing got chased by a male, with the usual high aerial spiraling dance, ending with her flying to some trees. (Always occurs just when I'm about to get a photo:)

I saw that there is more emerging milkweed (Asclepias viridis) and spotted more monarch eggs. The milkweed and wildflowers will be helped by the 2.6 inches of rain that fell yesterday and last night.

This photo shows a beautiful monarch as she is laying an egg on a fresh milkweed this morning.
