Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 03/14/2024

Number: 4

Four caterpillars that were brought to the greenhouse, eclosed between Nov 10th-15th. Have been living in the greenhouse nectaring on tropical flowers. However, 3 of them have lost most of their wings now and need help in transportation to flowers. Took them outdoors on a record warm day (around 60s) on March 14th and introduced them to Hellebores, Winter Aconites and Crocus!! This is the first time ever overwintering Monarchs lived this long in the greenhouse. Usually a Shrew/Voles hunt them down. The 2 males and 2 females are not mating though the males are interested and show visual swelling of gonads.
