I've been hearing a Great Barred (Hoot) Owl for almost two weeks now. The location is the same every evening and I've recently heard responses from two different locations. I don't believe my owl is more than 100 to 150 ft behind my residence. I have a wooded area behind my house but next to my property is a cleared area. I'm sure it's a great spot to hunt rodents as the property is about 8 acres of cleared space. If I ever have the opportunity to get a picture I will post it.
