Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/31/2024

Number: 15

This morning first sighting of hatched egg, actually the larvae has crawled around…could’ve hatched in the middle of the night…
Out of 23 eggs brought in on 3/26, the day after they were laid, about 70% hatched, some already started crawling and some still attached to the egg casing with the black head poking out. Yesterday, on 3/30 they were still eggs!
I was worried that I might have taken those eggs too early, and killed them all, as it has passed 4 days and none of them hatched yet yesterday, but read than it could hatched between 3-8 days.
This morning, there are still 18 eggs on my milkweed plants in the garden outside and they have not hatched yet, probably laid a day or two later than the ones I brought in.
