Barn Swallow (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/10/2024

Number: 3

Male visited nesting area by my front door for a minute on 3/10/24. Started seeing females around 4/11/24 but possibly arrived sooner. First egg laid 4/15/24. Fifth and final egg laid 4/19/24. All eggs hatched, with the final egg hatching on 5/5/24. In 2022 and 2023 the male barn swallow had a white spot around its beak, which this male lacks. This couple also stopped sleeping on the brick ledge at night. On April 10th I noticed they both sleeping on the edge of the nest. I didn’t not check at night after eggs were laid. On May 2nd, there was a rat snake by the front door around 9pm so I turned on the light to check and only saw the female laying on the eggs. By May 5th, neither were seen on ledge or nest at nights. Possibly the pair is roosting on top of door casing but it’s hard to tell.
