Have seen a quick dart away from the repotted 'Blue Swede shoes' salvia up into River birch birch tree two days ago. Haven't seen it reappear bc it's so hot in 90's, But definitely seeing the small high view feeder in front level dropping. Having to refil. We do get retun nesters in vicinity for past 3 years, Won't see a juvenile until June. Another clue is seeing male rubythroats staying around for a week at a time before migrating eastward during April/May.
This evening I actually think we transferred from el Nino into La nina with the worst storm passing over Houston. Tornados spotted on radar, and downtown had skyscrapers windows knocked out. Like in hurricane 'Ike'they are saying. I believe it. Was black outside, twisting winds that got to 120 mph recorded at 5:30 p.m. With me running to bring in 2 glass feeders. At our southwest location which is pegged in central downtown was a bad evening. Over an hour of the final, last el Nino storm of 2024 hopefully.
I really think female rubythroats are doing the weather fall out in this years May migration. It's why so few females are being reported so far. Same here.
