Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/17/2024

Number: 1

We finally have the first hummingbird in our yard in Massachusetts!! What an exciting moment!!
The hummingbird was going back and forth from nectaring at a hummingbird feeder and a branch of a tree where hummingbirds successfully bred last year. It has to be a ruby-throated because that's all we have in our region of the United States. The chest was beige with no red so I think it was either an adult female or a juvenile male or female. Based on it probably being too early here for juveniles to have been born and fledged I think it's a female, but I didn't get a long enough look or picture! It has been here several times in the subsequent days so I think it's settled in, not migrating through!! I hope so!
