First monarch butterfly eggs, counted 24 stems of common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca), with 7 eggs on 6 of the plants, this morning at 65 deg F. All eggs observed were on the top side of upper leaves rather than the leafs' undersides.
One adult monarch was perched on a strawberry plant next to a little patch of four common milkweeds with three eggs on them, it flew away as soon as I stopped to snap the photo of the eggs and noticed it perched there. The adults seem very watchful and to know when they are watched. I believe it had probably just laid those eggs.
