Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 06/10/2024

Number: 6

It's been a very quiet and calm start to the hummingbird season this year. Our Rubies return year after year. Our females are nesting and our males are keeping watch from their respective territories. Sparky, our alpha, spends time patrolling. The other males lay low and try to avoid him. We usually start seeing first fledglings about mid June, so anytime now. We have 8 feeders scattered strategically throughout our property and we have lots of nectar rich flowers planted for them and all the other pollinators, including many of their favorites. We had a nice mild wet Spring. It's been dry the last few weeks and the heat has been slowing building. We're due to hit 90 degrees this week.
