Milkweed Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 06/14/2024

The flowers on the perennial milkweed are opening today. I have five moderately dense patches of milkweed, for a total of about 200 plants. I check almost every leaf daily, but still haven't found a Monarch egg or signs of larvae. My first sighting of a Monarch was May 15th; however, I couldn't photograph it, so I did not report the sighting. My third sighting was on May 28th and it kept me company for about 30 minutes while I planted some echinacea coneflowers for them. It was feeding on my neighbours lilac flowers and many times flew around me to have a closer look at the Adobe orange coneflowers that already had flowers partially open. No sightings at my home in Whitby, Ontario, since May 28th.
