Where have all the hummers gone!? I moved to this area in the Spring of 2021 and noticed hummingbirds coming to the plastic flowers hanging on my front porch. I unpacked two feeders and enjoyed my new neighbors dining at my front porch.
In 2022 I hung three feeders and at times had 10 to 15 hummers zipping around the porch, carport, and our heads too. It was so much fun!
Last year - 2023 - I hung four feeders around my front porch, but didn’t have as many hummers, however, they were brave and friendly, even perching my finger to eat from my new “feeder ring”. There were probably around 10 regular hummers that came to my feeders.
This year - 2024 - NO HUMMINGBIRDS! Zero, zilch, zippo! I have three feeders out and … nothing … no hummers came this spring now going into summer. I know the hummingbirds often come back to the same home area as in previous years … could it be the entire “clan” of hummers that “lived” at my house did not survive the long journey across the Gulf of Mexico? I miss my pretty babies!
