Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 06/27/2024

Number: 2

At approximately 10:45 I noticed this very fresh female fluttering from Milkweed to Milkweed in my driveway Milkweed patch. She fed voraciously for almost an hour and a half. At one point another Monarch came to the patch but she quickly chased it off. It left in a southeasterly direction. I was not able to determine the sex of the second Monarch but it looked very fresh as well. In my mind, I hope that they both were the larvae that made it to fifth instar, that I was not able to relocate before they formed a chrysalis. The timeline would be reasonable for them to be the same. Dew was still on the lawn and at two separate times she went onto the lawn to possibly get water off some broadleaf vegetation. Near the end of her visit, she flew west to the property line where I have another smaller group of mature Common Milkweed in flower. She fed a little there and the last I saw at around 12:15, she was resting on a Milkweed leaf in the sun. I was not able to see when she left or what direction she flew. When I checked at 13:00, she was gone.
Beautiful summer day, sunshine, Environment Canada data for closest reporting station at Windsor, Ontario at 11:00: 19°C, wind 35° at 13 km/h, barometric pressure relatively steady at 99.27 kPa.
