This is the third monarch seen all summer in this native prairie garden and it appears to be fresh.
The first was a tattered female in June laying eggs on milkweed. (Twelve eggs were observed growing from egg to third instar of which only one made it to chrysalis).
The second monarch was a male that only stopped on milkweed in the afternoon sun, long enough for nectar.
