Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 07/16/2024

Number: 12

Lots of hummingbird activity, which is the best part of summer! This juvenile is getting quite good with her/his aerial skills as she/he drinks from bee balm, one of their favorites. It has been brutally hot here this summer so far, with temps in the mid to upper 90s more often than not. We've also had very little rain. We're praying for rain and heat relief!

We also have a cabin in Laurel Springs, NC. This is our first summer owning the cabin. The hummingbird activity there has been absolutely amazing! We keep four 32 oz feeders out, one on each side of the cabin. I've counted 14 hummingbirds at one time, with many, many more zooming in the background. There are multiple adult males and lots and lots of juveniles and adult females. It's truly a sight to see!

Photo is courtesy of our good friend, Paul Nielson, who is an extraordinary photographer. We love when he comes to capture our sweet birdies with his camera!
