Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 07/23/2024

Number: 1

One rubythroat was sighted yesterday at 10 a.m. then again 3 p.m. flying out of desert willow tree. We are shifting into another week of a tropical rain event. Which will slow my sightings down.

*On the note of y'all asking if seeing less rubythroats. Wondering if others are not seeing also.

Audubon on our end say some years we see more than others. Why?
1. They don't make it tru spring storms.
2. Wind shifts, that being jet stream shifts moves their direction.

This year for us in our Houston location we are seeing more male rubythroat activity in 2024 spring and return back migration. Where as for past 2 years we had fewer. Every year there are hardly any females sighted both times. Rufous were abundant coming thru last fall 2023 activity thru our location.

*I see abundant amounts reported in upper North Carolina this year. That's where they are folks. Further up east where there are hardly any JN reporters.
