Sightings report image

Date: 07/24/2024

Number: 1

Photo is in flight. I could not capture her in the act of ovipositing. I haven’t been back to this park since July 9. Decided to check on some of the Common Milkweed plants where I had noticed ovipositing. While I was checking out some eating on a leaf, a female Monarch flew right in front of me and oviposited on a tiny plant in the midst of some tall specimens (see separate report under egg observations.) She flitted around some other plants and oviposited further before disappearing out of sight while meandering through this wonderful native plant garden. Weather at the time of my observation according to the weather app on my phone is 23°C, mostly cloudy, wind 15 km/h out of the southwest with gusts up to 27 km/h although it feels quite still in the sheltered area where I am sitting. Storms are forecasted for later. Humidity is 84% with a dewpoint of 21°C, barometric pressure is steady at 102 kPa.
No nectaring observed in spite of many types of flowers in bloom.
