Around this time last year we counted as many as 10 monarchs in our back yard at a time, so we're sad that we've seen no more than three at a time this year.
The one in the photo is sunning itself on a lisianthus, but they spend most of their time nectaring from our meadow blazing star (Liatris ligulistylis).
