Milkweed Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 06/04/2024

I planted Milkweed seed 2 years ago in the same spot I had a wild single milkweed plant. It did have one complete metamorphosis, of the four distinct stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult It was a female and flew off September 4th on a very windy day in Bismarck. I did not realize that milkweed should have cold exposure (stratification) and is known to increase germination rates by waking the seeds up from their dormancy cycle. Last year I planted the fluffy seeds in the warm spring, but no germination, no plants. This year after the winter cold helped the germination, 5 plants are growing from this spot. So far, no butterfly activity?
