Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 07/31/2024

Observed first Viceroy butterfly adult of 2024 in a field in West Amherst, New York. The field is brush-hogged usually once annually. Vegetation consists of a mix of grasses, forbs and young shrubs, and contains a mix of invasive and native plants. The native plants consist of a mix of wetland plants (including Swamp Milkweed, Blue Vervain, and Cattail) and upland plants (including Common Milkweed, Butterflyweed and Dogbane.)
Purple loosestrife is abundant this year, oddly enough.
