Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/02/2024

Number: 1

I am resending my information, as I do not think the info that I tried to record this morning went through.
It has not been a good year so far here in western PA. Several years ago, I helped at least 200 monarchs from egg to beautiful butterfly. This year so far, I have only had seven tiny caterpillars of which one died in chrysalis and two died in J stage. I am monitoring my remaining four chrysalis’s with fingers crossed.
I did observe a monarch laying eggs last week so I am hopeful. We have had extreme drought and unusually high temperatures. The rabbits are eating the lower leaves on my milkweed and the deer are eating the higher leaves. Thank good I have three large plots of milkweed.
