Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/05/2024

Number: 2

A male and female ruby-throated hummingbird who have been here frequently over the past seven days. They were at the nectar flowers, primarily on two bushes, a flowering pink Weigela and a purple Rose of Sharon, for several hours off and on all afternoon between 1pm and 6pm. They were also drinking from their hummingbird feeders at the same time. They chased each other off their eating areas and did aerial maneuvers together. They took turns visiting the area in the trees near where there was a successful nest last year. The female spent more time in the trees while the male spent more time at the feeders and bushes.
The male digently protected the hanging filled hummingbird feeders. He chased off a chickadee, a finch & a tufted titmouse who perched on top of the hanger of the feeders.
