Backyard growing mixed in amongst asters coneflowers and other perennials. Many bumblebees and other bee and wasp species present on the flowers nearby but milkweed has seed pods and not flowers at this point. Some new young plants are about 12” tall and may flower later this month.
A monarch butterfly pair is often seen and I find eggs on the milkweed leaves but never caterpillars. I suspect the ants and predatory wasps may be eating newly emerged caterpillars and birds nesting nearby would possibly eat any caterpillars?
