Sightings report image

Date: 08/13/2024

Number: 1

Just spent a pleasant hour and a half watching this female go from tiny Common Milkweed plant to tiny Common Milkweed plant while ovipositing She took a few breaks to sun herself and another break to nectar from some Dogwood in flower. I believe I witnessed her oviposit on one large plant but she focussed the majority of her energy on seeking out the plants closest to the ground. She was very purposeful in the placement of her eggs. As I write this, she is still busy looking for tiny plants in another section of the garden, visible from where I sit. Another more vibrant coloured female, came in and laid some eggs in this patch as well and continued on her way. An American Robin inadvertently disturbed the first female in her work and I believe she may have moved on. Although the photo is blurry, you can see her in the act of ovipositing. See separate reports for second female and egg.
