Monarch Egg Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/13/2024

Number: 1

Please see previous reports for adults sighted. This egg was laid by the first, faded female. For number I chose 1. There were numerous eggs laid but I did not do a count. Note that her eggs were laid on plants infested with aphids. Some of these plants also contain other larvae (previous report today.) Will the larva eat around the egg and will there be enough of the plant left by the time the caterpillar emerges from the egg? Does laying an egg on a plant infested with aphids offer protection in the form of camouflage from predators for the egg and the larva?
