Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/15/2024

Number: 3

While sitting in my usual spot at Tannery Park, I observed a male fly up to the Common Milkweed patch. I visually followed his flight as he travelled beyond me and up the hill towards the parking lot behind the washrooms. I observed him landing on plant on the balcony of a private dwelling. I journeyed up there and was able to observe three males nectaring on the flowers in this photograph. None of these males are the same one observed this morning with the very damaged wing. I did note, however, that there was one male with faded wings and a very tiny bit of damage on his forewing. Two of the males were faded and one was very vibrant. If you look closely at the photograph, two of the males are visible. I didn’t want to hang around for an inordinately long amount of time as this is someone’s private balcony. As I look over my shoulder now and observe with the binoculars, there are two Monarchs nectaring on this plant. I suspect there may be other pollinator friendly plants on the balcony as the Monarchs occasionally disappeared out of my viewing range behind the balcony railing.
