Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/16/2024

Number: 3

At the Tannery Park Common Milkweed patch near the washroom I was able to locate three larvae today. One first instar freshly emerged on a very tiny plant. The fourth instar from yesterday is now a fifth instar (still on the same plant.) The second instar larva in my photo has had a bit of an adventure. I found the tiny plant that he was on yesterday, broken and wilting. I examined it closely and could not locate him. I was however, able to locate him on the lower leaves of a Dogwood bush nearby. Since there were no other tiny Milkweeds or Milkweeds to speak of, where I found him, I relocated him from the Dogwood leaf to another tiny Common Milkweed plant tucked in under some larger ones. Hopefully he will be safe there. After an extensive search, I was not able to locate the other two larvae I observed yesterday.
