There were monarch butterflies flying around the pollinator garden. I noticed that one of the butterflies had something attached to it. Once it landed on the Mexican Sunflower, that is when I noticed the other monarch-female. The male was flying her all over as they were mating.
We have had a few very cool nights in the 40’s, so I am surprised by the monarchs still mating. This has been a very slow monarch season due to not seeing many caterpillars this year. Just starting to see more monarchs now, but they will be starting their journey soon.
