The hummers love the butterfly bushes as much as the butterflies do.
I have hummers in my garden whenever I have nectar for them (earliest in spring is for firecracker Penstemon).
They sometimes fight with the male monarchs for nectar…. or the monarchs fight with the hummers, really.
And the hummers fight each other.
I keep my large butterfly bushes deadheaded to encourage flowering and nectar for migration season.
I generally can’t get good photos, so you’ll have to take my word for it.
