5 is a conservative estimate, because I saw five at once in my yard. I see mostly juveniles right now, with speckled breasts and streaked throats on the young males. A few males have a single ruby spot, or a collar showing the beginning of the gorget. Any mature males passing through a few now, and definitely not from my summer breeding pairs as they rocket off at the sight of me. (My locals hover or take a high perch when I'm in the garden or swapping the feeders.)
Flowers being visited: Tithonia, late boneset, azure sage, cardinal climber vine, annual red salvia, partridge pea, evening primrose, coral honeysuckle, biennial gaura, zinnias, phlox and (pictured) Black and Bloom Salvia guaranitica in a planter.
