Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/02/2024

Number: 3

Now that the males are gone, the four females vie for the two feeders. One female spends most of its time guarding one feeder, and defending against interlopers as if it were the dominant male, but when it engages in chasing it may find that while it was gone another has nectared. The other feeder is used by at least three females, occasionally two may nectar at the same time, but generally there is a contest if two (or 3) arrive simultaneously. Although they are all probably ruby hummers, two are short necked and two have very long necks.
