Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/02/2024

Number: 2

With the start of the month, my hummingbird numbers have abruptly dropped. I was seeing up to 5 at once, battling, and feeding from flowers and feeders. Mostly juveniles with streaked breasts. As soon as they grew in their tail feathers, fattened up and trained their wings, they skedaddled with the drop in temperature. I have seen only 1 or 2 in the past few days, and they are travellers that startle at the sight of me (instead of hovering or perching nearby like my summer friends.)
My feeders are still seeing some action and I suppose I will continue offering sugar until frost.
