Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/07/2024

Number: 3

There has been a significant shift in feeding among the remaining RTs. Last week around 8/1 there were at least 8 birds competing for our feeder, all female. Then abruptly all disappeared for a day, and then half returned two days ago. The new behavior is that every RT starts out by nectaring from the catnip blossoms and fuscia, before tentatively drinking at the feeder. Having kept track of their fall departure date for at least 10 years, I know they have left as early as September 23 and, in the last 2 years, as late as October 10.
