THESE COMMENTS ARE A FOLLOW-UP REGARDING THE TWO FEMALE ANNA'S HUMMERS THAT THAT DEPARTED THAT I JUST REPORTED ON.
OBSERVATION ONE: THE FEMALE THAT DEPARTED YESTERDAY WAS A COMPACT SQUAT INDIVIDUAL, THAT ONCE THE MALES LEFT, TOOK POSSESSION OF ONE FEEDER. SHE DEFENDED IT AND SAT ON IT ALL DAY, EXCEPT FOR BRIEF FLIGHTS TO CHALLENGE ANY INTERLOPERS. APPARENTLY SHE WAS ABLE TO CHARGE-UP ALL SHE WANTED ON SUGAR WATER AND DEPARTED. BUT SINCE SHE SPENT NO TIME AWAY FROM THE FEEDER COLLECTING BUGS I WONDER IF SHE HAD ENOUGH FAT AND MINERAL STORES TO MAKE THE TRIP.
OBSERVATION TWO:
OUR MULTI-YEAR RESIDENT WAS QUITE LANKY AND EASILY IDENTIFIABLE (HER BREAST AND NECK WERE TAN RATHER THAN GREY). SHE ALSO HAD AN INTERESTING BEHAVIOR. IF A FEEDER BECAME DIRTY OR EMPTY SHE WOULD FLY UP TO US OUTSIDE , OR IN FRONT OF THE WINDOW IF WE WERE INSIDE, AND VERY SLOWLY MOVE SHORT DISTANCE BACK-AND-FORTH (RIGHT TO LEFT THE LEFT TO RIGHT) WITH HER WING AND TAIL FEATHERS SPREAD WIDELY OUT.
