Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/10/2024

Number: 1

Arrived approximately 19:00 to the tip area of Point Pelee National Park. Saw one monarch in flight over the tree tops headed north as I walked the west side of the tip. Attempted to follow with my binoculars but it flew out of my sight. Walked the entire length of the west side of the tip and then proceeded down the middle, looking intently for Monarchs. Made two forays onto the east side, scanning with my binoculars for any activity or roosts. There was an east wind so I didn’t anticipate seeing anything. Just at sunset, one lone male came into view. He fluttered about the understory where the shuttle drops off visitors at the tip. After a bit of indecisiveness he settled on a branch in the understory. Sorry I don’t have a photograph, it was poor lighting.
With the high-pressure system, clear skies and low winds, I suspect any Monarchs passing through this area probably continued aloft into Ohio.
