Arrived to the tip area at Point Pelee National Park at 19:00 after checking Sparrow Field. Plenty of nectar sources available in Sparrow Field and tip area. Took the west path towards the tip. The lake was perfectly calm. When I got to the tip, the east side was getting a light SE wind with gentle waves. Scanned the east side using my binoculars. Was unable to see any activity or roosts. With the calm west side, I concentrated my efforts on checking the trees there. While making my way northward along the path just before 19:30, noticed two other visitors taking a photograph. After speaking with them, they had spotted a Monarch land in a tree on the east side of the path just above head height. This is the male seen in the attached photograph. He was in a good position to absorb the last rays of sunshine. With the clear blue skies, low wind and high pressure system, I suspect the Monarchs would have had no reason to stop here and just continued on their journey. Stayed at the tip until 20:00.
Wind conditions at Harrow AAFC at 18:00: SE 4 km/h
Conditions at Point Pelee at 19:00: 22°C, humidex of 29°C, humidity 83%, dewpoint 19°C, barometric pressure at 101.9 kPa
