This male monarch butterfly was living as a caterpillar in my garden. I put a mesh bag over the milkweed plant to protect it from predators. It pupated and formed a chrysalis, then I removed the bag. On the day it was about to emerge, I moved the chrysalis so I could observe the butterfly when it eclosed. I left it in the butterfly mesh, open so it could fly away when ready.
