This is a volunteer milkweed from seed from last year’s plantings. It is on the south side of my garage barn. This one has six medium to large caterpillars and a smaller plant 3 feet away has four large caterpillars. These all arrived naturally. None were moved. We had a very dry summer until three weeks ago. Since then, there has been increased activity, especially that of caterpillars. Today I saw two monarchs in the area. Several days ago I reported one only. I have additional milkweed plantings as well as natural occurrence in a 3 acre grass field behind my house. It looks like the late season will recover from a slow start this summer.
